With so much happening around us over the past month, you may have missed the announcement that the change to BC Ministry of Children and Families CYSN service model has been announced.
This is big news for many families in BC. In particular, the announcement highlighted access to new supports for families and children in the FASD community.

There are two new benefit programs that may benefit youth with an FASD diagnosis, or prenatal exposures that affect functioning. These programs are being introduced in a phased format that will roll out between April of 2026 and March 2027.
Children with FASD will not automatically qualify unless they meet additional criteria. This includes a concurrent intellectual disability, enrolment in the DTC program, self-injurious behaviour, or another condition that meets the criteria.
The link for answers to some of your questions is found here https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/family-and-social-supports/child-care/cysn_announcement_faq_-_2026.pdf
There are also expanded community supports coming for youth with disabilities. Many community programs have been diagnosis dependent up until now. An expansion of eligibility for programming is welcome news.
Inspire Kids FASD Family Support Society will continue to advocate for rapid, equitable, and easy to navigate services for FASD families as we move forward.
We will be holding information sessions specific to the FASD services available as we move forward.
Continue to watch for updates and reach out with any questions or concerns.
